Welcome back to Mayfield at the start of the Summer Term!

It has been a very positive start to the term. The children have come back refreshed and have settled in really well. They are all looking very smart in their uniforms and as the weather is getting warmer, I expect to see all the children changing over to summer uniform in the next few weeks.

The Summer Term Calendar is now on the school website for a preview of all that is to come and this week has already seen a range of events: Lower II have enjoyed a road safety walk in the local area, led by the Local Authority’s A Stars road safety campaign; a team from Form II has just left to take part in the Wrekin College Maths Challenge; Upper II and Lower III have voted for the first ever Mayor of the West Midlands (results to be announced soon); and The School Photography Company came in to take photos of the Lower III pupils to create  their Memory Books, which are presented to them by the school and the PTA in the Prizegiving at the end of term.

In a change this year, the Prizegiving will take place in a grand marquee on the paddock on the afternoon of Monday 10th July, enabling us to invite all parents of the school to a fitting climax to the year.

Let me just take the opportunity to remind everyone that two years ago we had the best inspection possible, receiving judgements across the board of excellent, outstanding and exceptional for pupils’ achievement. Last year, we had our best results ever, with over 90% of Lower III students achieving places at selective grammar and independent senior schools, and 100% achieving the expected standards at age 11 – something only a handful of schools achieved across the United Kingdom! Mayfield is a great school, with wonderful staff and pupils, and the school is continually raising the bar to achieve the highest standards. Your children are getting the best possible education at Mayfield!

Finally, I have been so pleased with the terrific attitude to work and the immaculate behaviour of all the children in and around school this week that I have decided to close the school on Monday and reward them all with a day off!

Enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend and let’s enjoy another wonderful Summer Term at Mayfield!
