KES Maths Challenge Form II

What a magnificent day of mathematics was enjoyed by our intrepid Form II team at the Year 4 KES Maths Challenge. In the morning, they faced a very difficult cross number, followed by a breathless and exhausting maths relay race. After a gourmet lunch of pizza, pasta and cookies, the team let off steam with the rest of the competitors in King Edwards School’s extensive grounds. In the afternoon, they played a series of prediction style games and investigated the concept of probability and how to apply it successfully to win games. Finally, they were treated to an interactive and highly entertaining maths lecture from Manchester University’s Katie Steckles, culminating in her blowing giant smoke rings along the length of Big School in the shape of a torus (doughnut). In a packed competition involving around 25 local and independent schools, we came fourth, missing out on the top three by the narrowest of margins. What a great day!
